Daddy Stay Home

One child in my class today prayed that his dad would stop working long hours and stay home more often. He's only like 7 so it blew my mind that he was bold to include a personal aspect of his life in an opening prayer. Well children surprise me everyday and I realized that I might need to be a parental figure for some of the children this summer.

Deep Lessons from a Child

You do certain things the same way everyday. Story of my life. When working with children everyday, one thing I know is that I love them and believe in them period. The funny thing is children can't or won't always let you know how important you are to them. But the few moments they do it can blow your mind. Like one day this week, a little boy I tutored surprised me with a flower after I had been away for some days. And, then yesterday I ran into the guardian of one of the children I had tutored for 4 years. She told me something that motivated me to continue tutoring. Apparently, the child she cares for told her yesterday that he is sad I am leaving because:

  • "I never raised my voice at him"

  • "I  always treated him with respect" (Shocked how deeply he grasped that concept)

  • "I helped him a lot with their homework "(Surprised he valued it because sometimes he seemed reluctant to do his schoolwork)

I don't remember everything else but I was amazed at how observant he is, and the fact that his guardian told me he never says anything good about anybody. All in all, his story touched me because in a million years I wouldn't have known that he thought of me that way. So adults, make sure you treat the children around you with love because they need you and yeah they are watching. And, yeah children can teach you some of the deepest lessons about life.

Feel free to share any similar experiences you have had in the comment section.

The Most Important Lesson for Your Child

The world has really changed. We almost have everything like that. The internet is at the tip of our fingers and so are many things. With so many of this and that it might be hard for your child to focus. You need to help your child develop a sense of discipline. How? Well you need to exercise discipline by being moderate so your child's lesson is equally important to you.

Listening to our Children

Take time to listen to children. There is a lot that they can teach you about yourself and others. Listen to them also because they need you to do so. Not every child has the privilege of being in good hands so be an angel to all the children around you.

Believing in Children

Some people sadly give up on children within a minute of interacting with them. Children are complex and simple at the same time. They are like open books which reflect what they have been through. If a child tells you something be sure to believe them. Last but not least, remember that children are capable of changing. Don't stop believing in them. Be a positive influence and support for a child in hard circumstances today.

5 Lessons from Children

There is a lot that children can teach us. I love working with little children and they never fail to amaze me. Here are some things that children can teach us:
  1. It is okay to have big dreams even if they don't come true
  2. Enjoy the moment and don't always rush to the next thing
  3. Take time to listen before responding and that is how you will learn how to get things done
  4. Be inquisitive and don't be afraid to ask questions
  5. Be bold and don't count your losses before you actually attempt something

Sick children need our help

Sickness is something that  the human race has to encounter every day. Some of these illnesses are preventable while others are maybe unfortunately not at the present. The sad fact is that there are still many young children dying around the world from different diseases. These young children have not even experienced the fullness of life. If it is in your heart try to find  a way to help sick children in your community and around the world. And yes, be grateful for the health of many children in your life.

Self control and you

Have you ever tried controlling an adult? It is useless. Children are the ones who need such control, instruction, or guidance. But when you and others grow older, you just have to let it be. You have to let it be, and to not forget that the easiest way to stay sane, in the midst of whichever chaos is to control yourself. Don't waste your time trying to control external factors. Instead, take the time to know "you" in depth, so you can control your reactions to the ups and downs of life.
